Randy Sorrels was born into a military family, and moved to Houston after his father retired as a Colonel from the United States Army. He grew up in places such as Ft. Lee, Virginia, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, Alexandria, Virginia, and Dallas, Texas. After graduating from Dulles High School in Ft. Bend County, Sorrels attended Houston Baptist University on a soccer scholarship, graduating Magna Cum Laude. At HBU, he was honored as the Outstanding Student in both Political Science and Speech Communications. Since graduation, HBU has honored him as their 2009 Alumnus of the Year and has named the soccer field after him (Sorrels Field). After college, Randy attended South Texas College of Law, where he also graduated Magna Cum Laude. At South Texas, he was a member of the South Texas Law Review and the nationally recognized Board of Advocates. In 2009, he received the South Texas College of Law Public Service Award.

Randy began his legal career in 1987 at Fulbright & Jaworski, where he defended individuals, doctors, hospitals and corporations that were accused of wrongdoing. He moved to Abraham Watkins in 1990 and became a partner in 1993. He is double board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (Personal Injury and Civil Trial Law) and board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocates in Civil Trial Law. While at Abraham Watkins, Randy has consistently been voted one of the Top 100 lawyers in Texas by Texas Monthly and has been named one of the top "Go To" Personal Injury Lawyers in Texas by Super Lawyers Magazine. He handles individual cases involving serious personal injury, catastrophic events, wrongful death and disputes between businesses. Randy recognizes that each client's case is the most important case to that client and makes sure he and his staff treat that case with the time, attention and respect it (and the client) deserve. He has settled or tried numerous multi-million dollar cases for clients throughout the state.

Randy is married to the former Cheryl Casas and they have four children -- three daughters and a son. He has coached various sports teams for each of his children including soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. Randy currently coaches his twin daughter's club soccer team and works with his twin son on his golf game. He has worked out with the Seal PT Fitness Group since 1998, and has reached the highest fitness level recognized on the Seal PT Lifer's Team. He is a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, and all four of his children have attended St. Michael Catholic School through eighth grade.

Under his leadership as managing partner of Abraham Watkins, Randy has fostered a spirit of inclusion, innovation and has not hesitated to implement new ideas. In the last decade, Abraham Watkins has become more diverse, more community involved, more academically accomplished, and a more trial active law firm. The firm currently touts four board certified lawyers, and with programs implemented by Randy, the firm expects two more of its lawyers to attain board certification status in the near future. Besides serving its clients and the community, the lawyers at Abraham Watkins help many who cannot afford a lawyer through its pro bono activities. In fact, Abraham Watkins was the first law firm to sign up for the Houston Bar Association's Equal Access to Justice Champions program and has received the inaugural Harris County Bench Bar Pro Bono Award for Small Firms.

Randy has held various leadership positions including President of the Houston Bar Association, President of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, President of the Houston Trial Lawyer's Foundation, Vice President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Director of the State Bar of Texas, Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, Commissioner of the Equal Access to Justice Commission, and Trustee of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. Early in his career, he was recognized as the Woodrow B. Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston. More recently, he has been awarded the State Bar of Texas President's Award (recognizing the Texas lawyer who provided the most outstanding contributions through distinguished service to the lawyers of Texas), the Judge Sam Williams Award (recognizing contributions to both local and the State Bar of Texas), and the Houston Bar Association President's Award (recognizing significant contributions to an HBA program).

"I am proud to be a part of the great tradition of this law firm, and I hope that my contributions to this firm and our clients will continue to allow our firm to be a part of the legal landscape of Houston for a long time to come," notes Randy Sorrels.
